State, provincial, and federal relations in the era of the coronavirus
Zoom presentation
CSG East’s Canada-U.S. Relations Committee is presenting two Zoom panels as part of its virtual meetings this summer. While all are welcome to view the Zoom session, only committee appointees may vote on any business issues before the committee.
COVID-19 has affected state and provincial relations with their respective federal governments. In the United States, the federal government delegated much of the responsibility for managing the crisis to the states, which instituted their own public health measures, and which were forced to purchase their own personal protective equipment.
In Canada, where health is under the jurisdiction of the provinces, managing the crisis went fairly well, though some disagreements have arisen regarding conditions related to additional health care funding for the provinces.
Lee-Anne Goodman will lay out the broad strokes of the crisis with respect to federal and sub-federal relations and invite legislators from the Eastern region to discuss their experiences in their respective states and provinces.
